This study-unit is intended for those who have just passed the previous study-unit, EPE2013, to communicate in Maltese, as required in their study environment and prospective work. In this course, the student continues to develop their reading, speaking and writing skills in Maltese. They are trained to use basic, technical and specific words, simple and more complicated sentences and the most common expressions in Maltese as well as abstract expressions and idioms, that are used in everyday life and in the classroom; for example, how to write a letter to parents, how to write a report, and how to communicate well in Maltese with adults and children

Din l-unità ta' studju hi mahsuba ghal min ghandu hila bazika fil-Malti (livell A1/A2 tas-CEFR)jew ghadu kemm ghadda mill-unità ta' studju precedenti, EPE2013 sabiex jitghallem jikkomunika kif mehtieg bil-Malti fl-ambjent tal-istudju u tax-xoghol prospettiv tieghu. F'din l-unità ta' studju, l-istudent ikompli jizviluppa l-qari, it-tahdit u l-kitba bil-Malti sa 'Independent User' tas-CEFR. Jigi mharreg sabiex juza kliem baziku u specifiku fil-qasam tal-edukazzjoni, sentenzi semplici u aktar ikkumplikati u l-espressjonijiet l-aktar komuni bil-Malti kif ukoll astratti u idjomatici, kif ninqdew bihom fil-hajja ta’ kuljum u fil-klassi; nghidu ahna, kif jikteb ittre lill-genituri, kif jikteb rapport u avviz, kif ukoll kif jikkomunika sew bil-Malti, mal-adulti, mat-tfal u mal-istudenti.

Study-unit Aims

The objectives of this study-unit are that participants:

  • properly communicate information on familiar and routine issues and themes;
  • read and understand simple and complex sentences, excerpts in Maltese and student reports
  • write reports, announcements, formal, informal and electronic letters to adults and students;
  • function well in the workplace;
  • understand the main ideas of a complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in the field of education.

  • Jikkomunikaw sewwa l-informazzjoni dwar kwistjonijiet u temi familjari u ta' rutina;
  • Jaqraw siltiet bil-Malti u rapporti dwar l-istudenti u jispjegaw x'fihom;
  • Jiktbu rapporti, avvizi, ittri formali, informali kif ukoll elettronici lill-adulti u lill-istudenti;
  • Jispjegaw l-ideat principali ta' test kumpless fuq suggetti kemm konkreti kif ukoll astratti, inkluzi diskussjonijiet teknici fil-qasam tal-edukazzjoni.

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

  • obtain knowledge about the sentence structure in Maltese and its intonation;
  • become familiar with the grammatical structures of Maltese: verbs, nouns, prepositions, adjectives, and so on;
  • explain and describe the cultural components in everyday communication;
  • deliver oral and written presentations.

    • describe some experiences and aspects of their past; the physical, social and cultural environment around them and issues related to their needs;
    • describe experiences, events, wishes and aspirations, and briefly justify their views, or explain their plans;
    • answer and ask questions in Maltese;
    • know how to use pronouns;
    • know how to conjugate the Mamma (the basic verb in Maltese) in imperfective and perfective aspects;
    • know how to fill in a form with personal details;
    • know how to write a formal, informal and electronic letter;
    • know how to write a message and notice;
    • know how to write a report;
    • be able to write words, sentences and phrases related to school life and the field of education;
    • use a few adjectives in the singular, plural, comparative and superlative forms;
    • use Collective, Singular, and Plural nouns;
